"Fall" Back in Love with Hot Tools

Summer is definitely coming to an end and as sad as I am to see it go, I am absolutely thrilled for this Fall season! The scent of Spices and Spruce and Cinnamon fill the aisles of stores and Foliage throughout the city turns from green to warm ambers and chestnuts and reds. The chill begins to carry though the air and stepping out your door no longer feels like stepping into a sauna. For me that means that I can now take hot showers, order hot drinks and dust off my hot tools.

Fall means that Hairstyles come back into fashion as you hopefully wont sweat out your style before you make it to your final destination. Blowdryers, Curlers, Wands and Flat Irons, these are a few of my favorite things. But with all that heat...be sure to keep your hair protected and safe.

Cedra x BrioGeo Spring Hair Affair

On behalf of Cedra and BrioGeo I would like to thank all of the wonderful people who attended our in-store event this past Saturday; April 2nd despite the touchy weather that we experienced. We got the chance to meet a ton of new faces and really interact with the customers on a friendly, personal basis. We hope to continue to work towards a better, healthier you, it all takes one step and we are here to guide you along the way.

As well I would like to thank Nancy Twine as well as Joey Lauren founders of BrioGeo and Kissamint respectively for coming out and talking to the customers about their wonderful brands and how they came up with these amazing ideas. Special thanks also goes out to Katie Rosen of MD SolarSciences for attending and setting up a table to discuss the importance of skin care and preservation from the harmful effects of prolonged sun exposure.

The afternoon was spent chatting and shopping. There was a Braid Bar at the back and Makeup applications done by our personal beauty guru Brandon Cross in the front. The day was complete with customers shopping around the store and getting 20% off of their entire purchase as well as leaving with a swag bag donated by Briogeo but containing other goodies from such brands as Java Skin Care, MD SolarSciences, Aloha, and Europarfumes. Till next season! Hope that those that could not make this event will be able to make the next one!

Curls Curls Curls!

It seems as though curls always get the short end of the stick. There are Blow Dry bars all across the city and places that always offer walk in Blow-outs...but have you ever heard of a Curl Bar? No you have not, because that is not a thing...but it should be! If you are naturally curly like I am and style your hair straight most of the time then this article is exactly about you.

Growing up, my mother had pin straight hair and I always dreamed that I could have hair like hers because that was how everyone in the movies or shows that I watched looked. However my mother would always go and get a perm which confused me. Why was she trying to achieve that which I wished that I didn't have.

The real reason why I 'hated' my curly hair in the past was that it was work...work, work, work, work, work work...and lets keep it real. My hair required constant moisture and brushes weren't a tool that I ever reached for. In my older years I am now becoming more comfortable with myself and embracing my natural curls. I think that it took me this long because I couldn't figure out what worked with my hair. It took years of searching and trial and error but I found the trick that works for me and you should give it a try.

When your hair is still wet, you should use a curl cream like the BrioGeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave-In Conditioning Creme :  This lightweight, moisture-rich finishing crème is fortified with frizz-deterring rice amino acids, avocado oil, and nourishing quinoa extract to nurture and enhance the texture of your curls.and lather that evenly throughout the hair to shape the curls. To keep them in proper form and frizz free, use a very light hold gel and spread evenly throughout the hair as well. If you have the time, you can use a blowdryer on the cold setting or simply let it air dry and then finger comb and scrunch the curls as desired. The end result will make you glad you have those curls.

Winter Hair Blues

During the winter months, we are, for the most part, confined to indoor activities. This causes a bit of cabin fever and causes us to experiment more with our looks, the main characteristic being our hair. The coming of the winter means dry everything, from the land, to our skin and even to our hair. Here are a few ways that you can keep moisturized and nourished.

Lets start in the morning:

You know how you love to shower and wash your hair every morning...stop it. The mix of the cold hair outside and moisture in your hair is a toxic combination. Keep the hair washing to a minimum. Instead, if your hair starts feeling a tad oily or greasy, try an alternative like our Klorane Dry Shampoo that comes in two formulas for both light and dark hair colors.

Before leaving the house when you are bundling up, don't forget your head! The cold air dries out your hair making it feel brittle, stiff and dry. Grabbing a hat before you leave the house will not only keep your body warm but keep your hair protected from the brutal cold. Worried about hat hair and frizz? Buying a beanie lined with satin will prevent this, or you can simply tie a scarf over your hair before a hat as well!

At night when you feel like it's time for a good wash, consider a Co-Wash. Briogeo Hair Care is a great line which has an amazing "Avocado + Quinoa" Co-Wash which works wonders. Co-Wash actually stands for Conditioning Wash: using a conditioner or conditioner cream based product to cleanse the hair in place of a shampoo. If the hair is extra dry, or chemically processed like mine, try the "Don't Despair Repair" Deep Conditioning Mask.

For the night-time, if you like your apartment hot and cozy like me, be sure to invest in a good humidifier. The heat in your apartment dries out the air as well as your skin and hair.  Using a humidifier will combat the effects of the heat and leave you waking up refreshed and ready to take on the day. Say goodbye to waking up tired, groggy and dehydrated!
